How to Wash Your Wig or Extensions
Wigs, extensions, Futura fiber or real hair – expensive or cheap, they all require proper care. The most important thing is to wash your wig or hair extensions regularly and properly. With the right technique, you can refresh your style and maintain the original appearance of your hair.
One of the most common questions we get is: “How do you wash your fiber wigs and extensions at home?” Here we share a simple step-by-step guide to your hair care routine – so your hair stays healthy and beautiful for longer.
Step 1 – Prepare the hair
- Brush through hair to remove tangles.
- Use a paddle brush or wide-toothed comb depending on texture.
- Do not comb curly wigs – instead, gently separate with your fingers.
- Always start detangling from the tips and work your way up.
- Be careful not to pull the hairs out of the wig.
Step 2 – Shampooing
- Fill a tub or sink with warm (not hot) water.
- Mix in a wig shampoo or synthetic shampoo.
- Place the wig down and leave it for 5–10 minutes.
- Gently wash the cap to remove dirt and oil.
- Rinse with lukewarm water from roots to ends.
- Make sure all shampoo is gone – otherwise your hair will become dull.
Step 3 – Conditioner
- Fill a container with warm water and mix in conditioner.
- Use conditioner for synthetic hair or oil-free conditioner.
- Avoid rubbing or twisting your hair in the water.
- Let the wig soak for 5–10 minutes.
- Rinse gently in the direction of the hair until the conditioner is gone.
Important: Do not use oil-based products – they can make your hair look unnatural.
Step 4 – Drying
- Place the wig in a towel and gently pat the water away.
- Avoid twisting, rubbing or brushing the wig when it is wet.
- Put it on a wig stand or mannequinto air dry.
- Do not place it in direct sunlight.
